Legends 2014 Capture Silver Cup Glory at Cherry Island

On July 11-12 at Cherry Island, the Legends 2014 Boys team delivered an unforgettable weekend, winning the Silver Cup Tournament in dramatic fashion. After topping their group on the final play of the last group match, Legends returned the next day and won the championship in a penalty shootout thriller.

This was the team’s first 11v11 tournament of the season, and they rose to the moment.

Group Stage: Grit, Skill, and Late Drama

Game 1: Legends 4-1 Valley United (Fresno)

Legends opened the tournament against Valley United, who traveled from Fresno, and made an early statement.

Lanny T. scored the first goal with a stunning strike from the right side into the top-left corner.

Max K. made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after earning the foul himself and converting calmly.

Valley United pulled one back in the second half.

But Legends responded quickly. Stepan K. capitalized on a goalkeeper mistake to restore control at 3-1.

The final goal came after chaos in the Valley box, where Omar S. delivered a timely assist and Sayed G. finished calmly into the top-left corner.

A complete team performance and a perfect start.

Game 2: Legends 2-1 Rocklin FC

Rocklin FC entered the match needing a result after their opening loss to Napa Academy, but Legends struck first again.

Max K. played a beautiful pass to Lanny T., who went one-on-one with the goalkeeper and finished confidently.

Rocklin equalized before halftime after a long ball beat the defense to make it 1-1.

In the second half, Max K. produced the moment of the game, launching a magnificent long-range rainbow strike from downtown to seal a 2-1 victory and a second straight win.

Game 3: Legends 1-1 Napa Academy

The final group game was the highest-pressure match of the day. Napa Academy needed a win to stay alive and came out strong in a physical, intense battle. Their pace on the wings eventually broke through, and Napa scored late, leaving Legends on the brink.

Legends needed a tie to reach the final.

With time running out, Max K. earned a free kick. Justin S. delivered it into the box, and the ball was headed into the net by a Napa defender for an own goal. On the final play of the match, the referee blew the whistle and Legends advanced as group winners in dramatic fashion.

Final: Legends vs Valley United (Rematch)

The championship game was tense, physical, and back-and-forth from start to finish.

Valley United scored first early after a crowded sequence on Legends’ right side led to a messy deflection and finish.

Legends pushed for an equalizer in difficult conditions on a hot, muggy day. In the second half, one decisive sequence changed everything. A long ball found Sayed G. to start the counterattack. After confusion in the box, Stepan K. played a perfect pass to Max K., who burst forward and finished a powerful goal to tie the match.

The final went to penalties.

Penalty Shootout: Championship Nerves

  • Liam W. scored first for Legends. Valley answered: 1-1.

  • Sayed G. missed, but Valley also missed: still 1-1.

  • Max K. buried the third penalty into the bottom-left corner: 2-1 Legends.
  • Goalkeeper Mark made a huge save on Valley’s third attempt.
  • Mark L. missed Legends’ fourth, and Valley equalized: 2-2.
  • Justin S. scored Legends’ fifth with composure: 3-2.
  • Valley needed to score, but Mark came up big again, saving the final shot to seal the title.
