Coach Andrew Ponomar, co-founder of Legends SC, develops players with a disciplined, European-inspired approach and passion for the game.
Coach Andrew Ponomar, president, head coach of the Legends 2012B-A boys team and co-founder of Legends Soccer Club, began his football journey at age 10 with the Dnipro 75 Academy in Ukraine. He continued his development at a specialized academy run by his city’s Department of Education, training there until he was 16. These formative years provided a strong technical and tactical foundation that continues to influence his coaching philosophy today.
At 20, Andrew joined the local club Keramik, competing at a non-professional level. By 23, his team advanced to semi-professional status and qualified for the Ukrainian Second League, giving him valuable experience in high-level competition. At 24, he moved to the United States, where he stayed connected to the game through indoor soccer.
Andrew’s coaching career began when his son started playing youth soccer at age nine, and he was invited to serve as an assistant coach. This opportunity sparked his passion for coaching, leading him to work with several clubs and always focusing on player development and growth.
In 2015, motivated by a clear vision for player development, Andrew co-founded Legends Soccer Club with a dedicated board of directors. Within two years, the club introduced its program to local schools in the McClellan area and began forming its first teams. In 2020, Legends SC was officially accepted into NorCal Premier Soccer, and since then, the club has consistently demonstrated the effectiveness of its development model, with multiple teams progressing and competing successfully across various age groups.
Coach Andrew’s mission remains simple: to develop players through a structured, European-inspired approach that emphasizes discipline, technical excellence, and a true passion for the game.
